Empathy and ethics in everyday healthcare
Clinical knowledge matters. Technical ability matters. But patients also experience how they are welcomed, listened to, informed, examined and involved in their care.
Practise how you respond to patients, understand the reasoning behind your choices and recognise what to work on next.
An interactive companion app to “The Patient in Front of You” module, for healthcare professionals worldwide.
Everyday interactions matter.
Welcoming a patient. Asking permission before an examination. Listening when someone says that something is wrong.
These everyday moments shape whether a person feels acknowledged, respected and involved in their care. Project Andrew provides a practical space to explore these situations and reflect on the choices we make.
The focus is on understandable, observable professional behaviour in real patient encounters.

Three ways to practise.
Learn
Start with a short, focused explanation of a topic or principle. Explore an example, review practical guidance and check your understanding through a linked exercise.
Exercises — Basic mode
Read a situation and decide whether the presented action is appropriate. Submit your answer to see feedback explaining the response.
Exercises — Advanced mode: Chain Reaction
Action → Why → Principle. Choose an action, select the reasoning behind it and identify the principle that best applies. Feedback appears after you complete the sequence, showing how your choices fit together.
Use feedback to guide your next step.
Feedback explains the situation, the stronger response and what your selections suggest you should revisit.
Relevant Learn material helps you review a specific point. A follow-up scenario gives you another opportunity to apply it in a different situation.
Your progress helps you keep track of completed practice and areas to revisit.
Explore three situations in the free demo.
Welcoming the patient
Recognising the patient’s presence, introducing yourself and giving them space to speak.
Asking permission
Explaining what you intend to do and asking before touching or beginning an examination.
When the Patient Says: Something Is Wrong
Taking a concern seriously, listening to what has changed and responding without premature dismissal.
Each topic includes Learn material and both Basic and Advanced practice.
Who it is for.
Independent practice. Healthcare professionals can use Project Andrew to check their understanding, explore alternative responses and revisit topics at their own pace.
Staff development. Organisations can use the scenarios to help check staff understanding, support development activities and structure team discussions about everyday patient interactions.
The situations are relevant across countries, cultures and professional roles.
